Athlete Profiles

[HOME]

As triathletes can be of modest character, creating a profile & gathering results can take some time. Athletes go on and off training programs depending on their individual race goals.  Here's info on some of those coached or mentored by Daryl.

Adrienne

A recent arrival in Darwin, Adrienne is coming back after a few years out of competition.  A very experience triathlete, it won't take long before she is back in form.

Emma's fan club increased in 2008 with the arrival of daughter Ashlee, who is now the number 1 ticket holder to Aaron's number 2. Em is back to giving 100% effort whenever she gets the opportunity to race.  Emma is hoping to go a little longer in 2010.

Grant

Mega keen, Grant has the luxury of youth on his side and plenty of time to enjoy finding the distance that suits him best. He dabbled in the Gatorade Series in Victoria early in 2008 and finished the year with his first Half Ironman.  Grant has settled in well at that distance. Best is yet to come.  Mr Enthusiastic made his IM debut at IM Malaysia.

Phil BC

Phil was inspired to go long by Robyn's Hawaii efforts (flattery will get him everywhere). Took to training like a duck to water! Phil is another busy, busy person fitting training around home, job & 3 boisterous boys. Phil is currently fitting in training squads when he can & aiming for a few longer events in 2010.

Dave

Another extra busy person who is often out of town working, Dave manages to complete his training in all sorts of locations.  We detect just a tiny tiny amount of competitive spirit here. Dave has dabbled in the sport on and off, & is now putting in a consistent training effort and his results just keep on getting better.  Dave does have a wheel jinx happening that he is hoping is now behind him.

Damien

Quiet and unassuming, the nickname of Rowdy was very aptly attached by training partners during early long IM training sessions.   They now know first impressions can be deceiving!  Damien started 2009 in great long distance form, has done the Kokoda Track and continues to prefer long distance events.  Ouch, an injury sustained tripping over the dog stopped him in his tracks towards the end of 2009.  Early 2010 has him back on track.

Korgan

Korgan must now be considered a regular in the sport. He is showing remarkable dedication to training (particularly to swimming, his least preferred leg) and is coming ahead in leaps and bounds.  Due to work and family commitments, his plan to go long in 2009, was somewhat side tracked.  K Man will set some more goals for 2010, including coming to training.

Graeme

Graeme is a brilliant example of what triathlon can do for you !  He took up tri training under Daryl's guidance aged 59 to lose weight and see what happened. Now a 60 years young novice he is swimming times the envy of all.  Graeme comes to triathlon via hockey, where he was a representative player and coach  In his other life, Graeme is a writer.

Rosie is our gem, our pool nazi, the keeper of programs and all round fantastic lady.  If we could just put some training wheels on her bike to keep her upright at all times, all would be wonderful.  We would like to clone this girl for her generosity of spirit, enthusiasm and training ethic. Rosie is  now the proud mum of three delightful daughters following the birth of Erin in October.  Looking forward to a comeback in 2010.

Bin was inspired by some good friends to "have a go" at triathlon and so started training under Daryl's guidance some three years ago.  Her goal is to stay ahead of her husband & sons ... for as long as possible ! She has continued to improve dramatically and recent excellent age group results are no surprise.  Bin is training long in 2010.

Simon

Big Simon, not to be confused with Simon J, just keeps on improving.  He has been leading out his swim lane and is getting faster and faster on the bike as well as the run.  He is now realising the potential shown when he first fronted at swimming.  With a bike upgrade, a huge leap forward has happened and the tri and multisport bug really hit!  Those in the latte lane at swimming love him !

Jane is a very experienced triathlete.  An all rounder who swims well, she is strong on the bike &  is very competitive when she nails the run.  Jane is a bit like Hailey's comet, makes a bright splash across the tri sky and then disappears for awhile.  2010 is looking bright.

Robyn

Robyn Stanley has been enjoying the sport of triathlon for far too long.  She continues to encourage others to do the same. The challenge of crossing the finish line of any event, regardless of the distance, keeps her motivated.  Following an age group course record performance at 2009 IM Malaysia, she headed for Hawaii again. What will 2010 bring ? We now know, following another age group win in IM Malaysia, she heads for a Hawaii hat trick !

Phil

Phil has dabbled in triathlon on and off for .. how long was that?  Most commonly found touching up the tan at Nightcliff Pool, Phil is back to racing following successful rehabilitation after knee surgery.  Phil often misses our major events as he can often be found acting as a technical official instead of competing.  His recent performances prove he is in top shape ! Phil plans to continue his long distance love affair in 2010.

Brian is a long time triathlon competitor locally and a regular participant at Noosa and Mooloolaba triathlons.  His tall frame is easily spotted in the field. He usually judges his performances on how well he swims and rides .. with the run something between T2 and the finish line.  Brian's two greatest sporting assets are his sense of humour and Angelika!

Nikki

Nikki comes in a pint sized packet, but is all go.  She just keeps on keeping on, and it's no surprise that long distance events are her favourite, though she is equally comfortable across all distances.  Nikki has the IM bug and after being well prepared by Daryl for IM Malaysia in February 09, secured her much desired Kona spot .  Following time off to enjoy her wedding in May, Nikki was back in training soon after and realised her triathlon dream at Hawaii.

Rich

Rich is loaded with potential but suffers the usual problem of not enough time.  Busy workwise, father of an active toddler and now a new baby, Rich somehow manages to fit in most of his training albeit at some strange times, and still manages to maintain his sense of humour.  Rich and family head interstate in 2010.

Mick

Micko has been in the sport now for over 10 years & is one of those lucky people, who are equally comfortable over any distance.  Micko recently headed off to do a Level 1 Coaching Course.  Daryl has been a big influence on his triathlon career.

Ian

The quiet achiever, Doc seems to effortlessly fit in training around a hectic work & lifestyle schedule & makes his results look easy to achieve.  Has a couple of IM events lined up for 2009, if he can squeeze them in between fishing trips.  Update: Ian has now finished his two Ironman events, he and Nikki are married and he's happy doing his own thing for awhile.

Simon

Simon was drawn to give triathlon a go while watching the Child Bride competing.  We think he was being overworked as a volunteer and thought competing would be an easier option.  Mr Can't Say No still helps out!  Although built for rugby, he is now able to fire up those fast twitch muscles.   His swimming improved out of sight with Daryl, he is a demon on the bike and tenacious on the run. Currently having some well deserved social time.

Peta

Peta is a rose amongst the thorns at her place.  A busy working mum with husband and two strapping teenage sons to care for,  Peta invariably thinks of everyone else before herself.  She has been surprised to find a competitive spirit lurking within, especially when Simon is in sight. Peta  has been let lose to be a social butterfly and enjoy things as they happen but is still keeping fit.
