TA Recognized Practicing Level 2 Triathlon Coach

Coaching since 2003, Daryl attained Level 2 Triathlon Coach accreditation in 2005 and has considerable experience coaching athletes of all abilities, over all triathlon distances, from club to World Championship level.

As a coach, Daryl has assisted many triathletes based in the Northern Territory, interstate and overseas to some remarkable personal achievements and bests. He is up to speed on the many extremes of triathlon training including the wet season of the Top End, the deep winter conditions of outer Mongolia & the desert sands of Oman.

His coaching philosophy is simple – training discipline and consistency. There are no ‘silver bullets’ when it comes to success – you do the training and you do it consistently over time. Daryl also believes that triathlon and multi-sport is a commitment to a disciplined life style – a life style recognising that athletes have commitments to family, career, relationships and having fun.

His coaching emphasis is on:

A.     Training Discipline and Training Consistency – over time.

B.      Providing the environment and opportunities in which each athlete can achieve their personal aspirations.

C.     Specific goals with a race focus and orientation.

D.     Delivering the athlete to the start line – physically and mentally ready to race – fully rested, injury free with a practiced course-specific race plan.

E.      Career mapping, race selection and progress reviews (and testing where appropriate) for each athlete.

F.      Mental preparation for both training and racing.

G.     Developing the appropriate pre-race and in-race nutrition for each athlete.

H.     A mutual group support environment - encouragement and fun – the power of the group.

I.       Providing assistance and advice on training, racing equipment and apparel.

J.       Restricting the number of athletes to allow significant face to face and one on one time.

Formally Daryl was a Wing Commander in the Royal Australian Airforce specialising in combat support to operations. While serving, Daryl acquired an extensive knowledge of physical and mental fitness and survival skills. His  expertise as a triathlon coach is significently enhanced by appropriate leadership and personal management skills.

He successfully assists athletes with triathlon career planning and long term training strategies and is an outstanding life skills mentor.

A very experienced age group triathlete, taking up coaching was a natural progression for Daryl and a way to give back to the sport that has given him so many rewarding experiences.

If you have a triathlon or multisport goal in mind, you are welcome to contact Daryl regarding commencing an individual program or training at his squads.
