2012
Rottnest Swim - 25 February 2012
Ron ventured over to WA for the annual Rottnest swim and had an anxious wait on Friday when organisers announced that due to conditions the event may be called off.
Conditions on race day turned out to be good with not too much swell. They battled strong currents in the last 4km & went 6.06. Ron says it was a great sense of achievement. Well done!
More Hills - 20 February 2012
Matt road his 110km, including steepish hills at the weekend. No Urban Hills for him, he did his ride up and over the "Col de
Amerat" and back again.
That's a 308 vertical metre vomit inducing hill. Matt then went back in the afternoon to see
how the pro's do it. The 4th stage of the Tour of Oman was on, and the big guns
like Schleck, Millar and Co made it look too easy.
Ironman 70.3 Sri Lanka - 19 February 2012
Simon, Ashan, Helen and Kate were busy making triathlon history today. The foursome competed in the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Sri Lanka with transition in the very heart of Colombo. Even the President of Sri Lanka dropped in by helicopter to check out all the action.
Competing over the half ironman distance for the first time, Ashan's 4 hrs 45 mins 22 secs earned him a podium 3rd spot in M25-29 category.
Simon posted a PB and went the right side of five hours with his time of 4.58.08 in the highly competitive M30-34 age group.
Kate also posted a huge PB to come in 2nd and earn a place on the F25-25 podium in 5.31.16.
This was Helen's first attempt at a 70.3 & she obviously watched the action very carefully in Phuket & knew what it was all about, as she finished in 4th place in F30-34 in 5 hrs 45 mins 08 secs.
Well done to our Katherine connection. We enjoyed an exciting afternoon of athlete tracking !
Urban Peaks - 19 February 2012
There was some very impressive form shown over the urban peaks this morning. Well done all. Photos to come.
MTB Triathlon - 18 February 2012
With the Lake closed mid week due to a croc sighting, there was some doubt whether the swim would go ahead for the MTB Tri, but DCC gave the go ahead and the event went ahead as scheduled.
There were some tired bods around after big ride sessions earlier in the day, so most of the emphasis (for those who elected to have some mtb mayhem) was on staying upright and not getting injured !
MTB king Mark was second this year, going round in a swift 44 mins 50 secs. Berky teamed up and posted 47.16, his team holding out Justin who stopped the clock at 47.34. Ronnie was one of those to hit the deck but still managed a top 10 placing in 49.04.
Stef also teamed up, crossing in a pretty nifty time of 52.13 ahead of Glen who appeared to enjoy every bush bashing minute of his 53.01
Kylie proved she hadn't lost those MTB skills gained in the Tour de Timor and was the women's winner in 53.41 (way to go Kylie).
Nathan had family on hand to cheer him on and posted a tidy 54.11.
Peta made it look easy out there and posted 58.05 to easily hold out Daz (1.02.20) who remembers vividly injuries sustained in a previous mtb tri !
Amy was next across in 1.03.07 after a slip sliding bike, also taking care to have fun but finish injury free!
Commiserations to Karen who wasn't so lucky & finished with a rapidly swelling ankle
Well done crew. JM helped out with rego and Ryoko & Russell were the faces behind the timing clocks. Robyn was at her bossy best as well as taking some happy snaps. Lots of familiar faces among the spectators as well.
Doctor says - 16 February 2012
Phil's brother went to the doctor for a minor issue and check-up
and the doctor enquired about the
general health of the family. His brother said
that their parents were well into their 80s and in good health to which she
responded that was good for them.
She asked about siblings and his brother said
that he had a brother a couple of years older.
The doctor asked if Phil had any
health issues such as cholesterol, blood pressure etc. My brother said no, in
fact he had just done an ironman triathlon to which she replied “Ah, mental
illness”.
SA Olympic Distance Championships - 12 February 2012
Congratulations to Tim who ventured down south for the SA Olympic Distance Championships at Kingston. Tim (who started in the 3rd wave) posted the fastest swim time of the day and won his age group in 2.09.25 and was also 7th overall. Top effort Tim.
Geelong done and won - 12 February 2012
The weather conditions couldn't have been worse for our athletes racing in Geelong. Cold, wet and windy is not what triathletes from Darwin wish to hear (or experience) !
Bin was looking a treat in the lead up to the event and it came as no surprise but with much excitment that she won her Age Group this morning in the 2.80.20 (F45-49) in 4.43.25. Congrats Bin!
Amy has been working hard towards this event and was rewarded with 3rd in F20-24 in 5.21.33. Well done Amy that's exciting news.
Steve's pole dancing antics didn't seen to detract him from the task at hand. Like everyone, it was tough work in the swim and on the bike before Steve thawed out and posted a strong run. Steve went 4.29.12.
Kylie also found the wet and windy weather a real test but she also got a positive from her run result and finishing in 4.52.17. Wearing her Darwin trisuit, Kylie also received lots of sympathy from fellow competitors because of the conditions!
Unlucky Glen had three flats on the bike but also finished with a good run and stopped the clock at 5.38.40. Well done all.
The Olympic Distance starters were treated to a rainbow for their swim start ! Justin clocked 2.22.59, Bertram 2.51.08 and Louise 3.14.06. Again, well done on what was by all reports, a tough day.
Aside from Glenn and his punctures, the crew at Geelong are a very lucky bunch. At the random draws Steve won a $2000 groupset, Bin & Kylie won wetsuits and Amy won
a $20 bike store voucher.
Angelika & her team are raising funds - 9 February 2012
Angelika is setting out with 5 other girls (they are the only female team out of 7 teams
in total) to ride from Rockhampton to Brisbane (1000km) in an event
called Chain Reaction. They have commenced their training of 3 to 4
times a week , rain or shine!
The ride will commence in Rockhampton on Saturday
5 May and finish in Brisbane
on Friday 11 May 2012.
All monies raised will go
to Starlight Foundation , Royal Children’s Hospital and other children’s charities
that deliver life changing opportunities to children in need. Since its first
ride in 2007 Chain Reaction riders have ridden 235,000 kilometres and raised
more than $4.4 million on behalf of their charity partners.
Here are a few options to
support Angelika and her team to raise their target of $30,000.00 ($5,000 each).

NT Aquathlon Championships - 4 February 2012
We had a perfect morning for training and the weather continued to behave for the evening aquathlon. Indeed, during the afternoon we were fearing that it was going to be a very hot race. It was .. competition wise but perfect weather conditions prevailed.
Tim got off to a good start exiting the lake in the lead, and though overtaken in the early part of the run, ran strongly to maintain second spot and finish in 31 mins 22 secs. Well done Tim. He at least had the satisfaction of not being "chicked" by the fast finishing Ali who was third overall.
Derek had Ali on his feet during the swim and was third out of the water. He would be happy with his 6th place in the blokes with his swift 32.21
Next to cross was Marcus also making it into the top 10 with his 33.18. John ran out of road in the end, but his great run took him up to 11th in 34.03, ahead of big Ronnie who went 34.24 and Justin (who had a huge fan club to cheer him on) who finished in 34.30
Russell donned the budgie smugglers to help keep cool and stopped the clock in 35.41
Ryoko put in a big effort to come from 4th F out of the swim to run into second place in the women. Her time - 36.15 a pb on last year.
Ben was suffering from post IM enthusiasm, so rode down to have a little swim/run and finished in 37.08
Tara donned the now familiar look of determination, and posted 40.08. Ms Rosie has bragging rights for another year in the Peta/Rosie contest. She went 41.29 finishing ahead of Daniel (41.35), Phil (41.48) and Peta (41.51).
Graeme claimed age group honours with his 43.19. Robyn was happy to be in the field and crossed in 45.21 a fraction ahead of the extremely disciplined Kylie who also posted same time (having dropped
for 5 push ups when passed by Daniel).
Anna snatched bragging rights this time in the yummy mum stakes, crossing in 47.03 ahead of Lucy who went 47.11. Great to see these girls enjoying being back in the mix.
City of Perth Triathlon - 29 January 2012
Ashan lined up in the WA Olympic Distance Championships for his first attempt at that distance. He had the fastest swim in M25-29 and recorded a very respectable 2.17.03, and 13th in age group. For someone who has only done a couple of local sprint races in Katherine before today, that's an excellent result!
Tri WA Summer Series - 26 January 2012
Derek competed in the WA Summer Series Australia Day Triathlon at Point Walter, Bicton. He placed 2nd in M30-39 in 1.10.51 and was 5th overall in the Sprint Distance event.
Xstrata Nickel Swim thru Perth - 22 January 2012
Ashan competed in his first ever open water race, the 4km Xstrata Nickel Swim thru Perth and came 2nd his age group (M25-29) in time of 47 mins 35 secs. It was good open water practice, & Ashan reports, quite a reality check when compared to pool swimming.
Aquathlon - 21 January 2012
After a big morning on the bike, we headed for Nightcliff Pool to take part in Race 1 of the Aquathlon Series. A zippy little 400m swim, followed by a 3km run topped off the day nicely.
Tim was best placed, coming in 2nd Overall in the swift time of 17 minutes 47 secs. Marcus was next in 5th in 18.29 just avoiding being chicked by women's winner Ali who posted 18.33.
Justin made top 10 (8th) in 19.16. John probably would have placed higher than 11th in the guys had he got that promised race report done, but had to make do with 19.25 as the report is still outstanding. He did manage to pip big Ronnie who was still readjusting to Darwin weather and came in at 19.26. They held off Russ who stopped the clock at 19.41.
Stef was 2nd Female overall in an impressive 19.59. Ryoko, off her oats, was next in with 20.30. Bin took the morning's long ride in her stride and posted 21.12
Berky had a good one to record 21.30 and he was followed in by the swift trio of Nikki in 21.48, Kylie in 21.58 and Emma 22.11. Glen was next to cross the finish line in 22.28 and a minute later Nathan finished showing all that training at squad is paying off.
Kate was up from Katherine. She's looking forward to Sri Lanka and posted a neat 24 minutes at one of her rare appearances at a club event.
Phil (24.28), Amy (24.29), Tara (24.26) and Graeme (24.36) followed each other across the line. Next in was Peta in 25.28 followed by Geelong ready Bertram in 26.15. JM was back in the field and finished in 26.40 and Lucy just keeps on improving and today posted 27.35.
Good to see Belinda D in the field and clocking 27.59 and also Renee who has been training with us at squads going around in 28.02.
Daz was RD for this event so had a bird's eye view of everyone's effort. Thinking you all got big ticks, well done !
Challenge Wanaka - 21 January 2012
Ben is an Ironman ! Congratulations to Ben who competed at Challenge Wanaka in New Zealand today and enjoyed his first ironman experience immensely. Ben posted 12.01.50 ~ well done !
Ironman 70.3 Singapore Race Central Revealed - 20 January 2012
Organisers have announced today that Race Central will be at Angsana Green at East Coast Park. For those familiar with the area & staying at the Roxy, that's left when you exit the tunnel and it's just past the ski lake (and the food court that has great chicken rice). Suits well !
Happy Birthday Glen - 18 January 2012
Having a birthday on a double run day was a perfect excuse for many of us to join Glen at Nightcliff Sports Club steak night to celebrate his birthday. Birthday cake enjoyed by all.
Training Tri - 15 January 2012
With key races coming up soon for a number of athletes and the last local triathlon held months ago, Supercoach decided to put on a training tri just to refresh our memory. All that Splashing & Dashing is good fun but doesn't really come up to scratch tri wise.
Thanks to Daz who was down at Lake A late yesterday evening setting up the swim course and then up at sparrows to get transition and the run set up.
The BoM site showed clear at 5am but a small storm cell developed with lots of noisy thunder and lightning and apparently some heavy rain in parts. Lake A area remained untouched though and with a small delay to ensure the storm cleared, we were soon underway.
Good to see an even split of male/female athletes starting this morning and a pleasure to have Ali Fitch joining us for a hit out. It's been a heavy training week for most so it was pleasing to see such strong finishes. Good job all !
Derek heads West for comeback - 14 January 2012
Disappointed to be missing our training tri this weekend, Derek had a quick check of race calendars before heading to WA and found an ideal alternative.
Competing the the Telstra Tri Series sprint event this morning, Derek placed 6th in M30-34 in a time of 1.10.45 (good pre Singapore 70.3 form). Welcome back to racing Derek, it's been worth the wait !!
Matt races in Oman - 13 January 2012
Matt raced an Olympic
distance event today. They had a good turnout of 35 including teams, as there are a number of people going to Abu Dhabi
and Singapore in March. In addition to the
local crew, they
also had some people who drove down from Dubai and one lady who had
travelled all the way from Kuwait.
Matt says the course itself
was excellent, nice clear water on the swim and a good police presence on the
bike leg to control traffic. It was a flat run of 4 x 2.5km loops, but it was
nice to see the finish line as the day began to heat
up.
For the individuals,
a local member of the Oman triathlon team Suleiman A put on a big lead in the
swim, and extended it into the bike and run. He finished in 2 hrs 08 mins 39 secs. Matt managed 5th place in 2 hrs 29 mins 22
secs. Well done Matt.
Engagement - 11 January 2012
Our congratulations to Louise and Mark who recently announced their engagement.
Who is looking? - 10 January 2012
Amazing ... there were close to
14,000 visits on our website during 2011. Approximately 2,000 were from overseas
(mostly Asia, US and UK), 4,000 from interstate (Melbourne & Sydney were big hitters)
and 8,000 locally.
In addition there were nearly 28,000 Flickr views of our photos ... way to go Ms Paparazzi !

They made it to Mandorah - 31 December 2011
What do you do on New Year's Eve to brush the Christmas cobwebs from your legs?
Ride to Mandorah of course ! Latest to achieve this milestone are John, Kylie, Russell and Ryoko who can now tick that box. Ali and Stu made up the group and they were last heard of having a celebratory drink at the Mandorah pub while waiting for the ferry back to Darwin.
Matt reports in from the middle east - 31 December 2011
Matt reports that he did the
weekly club ride on Friday. It is quite mountainous where he is, and he has had to
change his cassette to 11-28. They did a 90km ride yesterday which included an 11%
climb of 308 meters over 5.04 km. It takes about 21 mins for Matt to do the climb
– the quickest guys take about 18 mins.
According to Matt, the downhill on the other side is
terrifying and he usually rides the brakes at about 70kmph but some of the guys get
up to around 90 kmph.
Matt took these photos yesterday - Left is of the top of the hill before the
descent and photo on right is in the valley floor. Once you get to the valley
floor, the road is awesome. It’s nice and flat and was car free for about
40km. What an experience !
Splash N Dash - 16 December 2011
Splash n Dashing dressed in Santa kit or Christmas theme obviously holds a great deal of attraction given the large numbers that turned up at Nightcliff Pool !
This was one race brief that required more than the usual amount of inattention, with competitors faced with three separate run routes, all of which had to be completed, but order in which they were to be done was left entirely up to individuals.
Tim was our best placed coming a close second overall in 18 mins 36 secs. Yes that's correct, a tiny weeny 18 and half minutes to make his way through 1km run, 200m swim, 1km run, 200m swim, 1km run !!
Marcus was next in 19.56 secs and John followed him in at 20.01. Dave could have been a bit further up the order except for time spent trying to locate a shoe (pay back for leg pulling antics in the swim) which had him clocking 20.22 anyway. Derek was next across the finish line and he stopped the clock in 20.30.
Stef was best of the women, crossing in a swift 21 mins 21 secs. Then came Santa Daniel in 22.08 and Simon, fresh from Canberra 70.3 in 22.15 and Haydn followed in 22.27.
Angelika teamed up with Connor to cross in 22.50 in front of Santa Glen. Emma was 2nd in the girls in 22.58. Ryoko was hot on her heels and in third place in 23.19. She was soon followed by a fast finishing Bin who stopped the clock in 23.27.
Mrs Claus (aka Kylie) was next to finish in 23.42 and she was followed in by Nathan in 24.20.
Daz negotiated all the runs and swims and came in at 26.16 holding out Ironman Phil who crossed in 26.56. J-M and Bertie crossed within secs of each other at the 28.38 mark and Graeme, still on the comeback campaign was next in at 29.01. Yummy mum Lucy was well supported by Berky and Madi and she crossed in 30.24.
Swim Squad Breakfast - 15 December 2011
Now very much a Christmas tradition, our annual swim squad breakfast was held this morning.
It's a great opportunity to thank Daz for another year of successful swim training. Also an opportunity before we all head off in all directions, to wish everyone a happy Christmas and all the best for the new year. Thanks to John for organising the roster and Terry for great coffee.
Canberra 70.3 - 11 December 2011
Conditions were pretty horrid in Canberra (read cold and wet) but the guys all did well.
John was doing his first 70.3 and clocked 4.47.58 (26th M30-34). What an excellent performance on debut over the distance !
Ron was also doing 70.3 distance for the first time and his swim got him off to a great start, he felt the cold on the bike, but thawed out on the run to come in well with 5.09.02 (16th M45-49).
Simon was unfortunate enough to get a puncture in the wet but got it fixed and still managed a very respectable 5.22.49 (30th M45-49). Well done guys.
Gatorade Series - Elwood - 11 December 2011
Melbourne's stormy weather saw the swim leg cancelled and substituted with a 1.4km run. So much for Stef's new wetsuit !
Stef podium'd in F25-29 taking 3rd in 1.06.48. Good work, Stef.
Qld Tri Series, Raby Bay - 11 December 2011
Family rivalry was pretty high on the agenda this morning. Kylie, fresh from her 70.3 exploits fronted up "for fun" and managed to podium in F25-29 (3rd) in 1.11.27. Congrats Kylie !
Brother Gary was only a couple of minutes ahead !!
Jamie & Simone's Wedding - 7 December 2011
Jamie proposed to Simone at the awards party after Phuket 70.3 last year. Today they were married in a fairy tale wedding at the Laguna Wedding Chapel surrounded by family and friends. Congratulations to Jamie & Simone.
Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships - 4 December 2011
Awesome results and big smiles for all in Phuket. It was a tough day with extreme weather conditions adding to an already tough course.
Marcus excelled to come in a strong 5th in M30-34 in 4.37.14. Russell nailed his race plan & came 15th in the same category with his fantastic 4.49.03.
Jamie PB'd (and podium'd again this year) in M18-24 with 5.01.41 for 3rd.
Steve 24th & Simon 25th in M30-34 had a sprint out with Steve taking the honours in 5.02.08. Simon's 5.02.09 was a huge effort for his first 70.3 result.
Justin enjoyed his day, going 5.14.25 and securing 15th in M25-29. Next in the same category was Haydn who was the bolter & lapped up his first half ironman distance in grand style to record an impressive 5.21.46.
Ryoko smiled her way around the course and was rewarded with a top 10 in the highly competitive F35-39 category, placing 7th in 5.24.42.
Kylie stopped the clock at 5.25.45 which gave her 2nd in F25-29 plus a Kona slot (way to go Kylie).
Daniel unfortunately had a mechanical problem but still recorded a strong 70.3 debut time of 5.41.03 to go 66th in M35-39.
Kate, picking herself up and dusting herself off after severe injuries just weeks ago, impressed in her first 70.3 taking 7th in F25-29 in 5.45.10
Daryl had plenty to be happy with in his 5th in M60-64 in 6.09.44 and bringing up the rear was Robyn who went one better than last year and PB'd with 6.27.35 winning F55-59 and also securing a Kona slot for 2012.
A resounding "Thanks Coach" from all !
Ironman WA - 4 December 2011
Congratulations to Ironman Phil - from being in an ambulance with broken ribs and punctured lung just a few short months ago he has come back in spectacular fashion to finish Ironman WA in 12.45.45. Well done Phil, awesome effort.
Graeme Update - 30 November 2011
He may be working in Indonesia but Graeme is doing his best to maintain his fitness. He has checked in with a progress update and has assured Daryl that he always stretches before entering the water and has sent photographic proof.

Meeting Cadel - 29 November 2011
Bertram, Belinda and Emma were among those select few to meet Cadel Evans while he was in Darwin
Weekend Brick - 27 November 2011
Noted some great form being displayed during the weekend brick sessions.
Phil is definitely ready to take on Ironman WA next weekend and is cruising along nicely.
Likewise those heading for Phuket 70.3 & Canberra 70.3 including Justin who was making it look way too easy!
Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri - 19 November 2011
Kylie did the 3.5km for her team in the Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri in Canberra. She knocked it over in 1 hr 05 mins.
This after doing her ride taking in "real" hills.
Waterfront Splash N Dash - 18 November 2011
200m swim, 2km run x 2 at the Waterfront after work ~ a tough way to end a long week ! The pace was on right from the start. With over half the field female, the guys worked hard to make sure they weren't chicked and the girls worked even harder for their spots.
The first of the 200/2 was a pretty zippy affair that took some of the sting out of the field, and had some legs realising they had had a big training week. By the start of the second 200/2, the looks of determination were appearing. They were firmly glued in place as the field went out on the second lap of the final run.
Marcus made the podium with his 22 min 15 sec effort which included a big sprint finish and scored him third overall. Next in was Steve with his 22.25 (5th overall) and he was followed by Tim, who crossed in 22.58 (7th overall).
Justin was just outside top 10, taking 23.42 and just holding out big Ronnie who went 23.45.
Stef was next in, giving it everything and being rewarded with the win in the women's field in 24.48.
Berky was next to cross the line, taking just 25.14 and holding out a fast finishing Haydn who clocked 25.24. Ryoko smiled her way around the course to bring in a 25.49 and a podium finish with her 3rd place.
Damo was solid all evening and stopped the clock in 26.28. It was great to see Emma back in the field and showing a glimpse of things to come. Emma went 6th in the women with her 27.53. Peta, as always determined to be ahead of Supercoach, achieved that goal easily with her 29.13. Amy was hot on Peta's heels and recorded 29.23 (and that folks is less than a week after she completed the 74km Ultra Trail marathon in Qld).
Daz was next to cross, going 30.28 and enjoying watching all the action up front. Heidi made her first appearance and went 31.05. Tara was also in comeback mode and crossed in 31.29. Jane Marie was next to finish, her time a respectable 32.46. Yummy mums Lucy and Belinda D teamed up and went round in 34.22.
Bin was the fabulous RD who put it all together with lots of help from Bertram. Phil, Rob, Daniel, Derek, and Robyn were among those on the sidelines helping out. Also great to see lots of family down to the Waterfront to support athletes - obviously a nice change to have an evening event and not have to drag children from their beds.
Well done everyone. Big efforts before big weekend.
Lake Bennett Training Camp - 11 - 13 November 2011
Our fifth Lake B training camp was conducted in typical tough Top End conditions. Thanks to Robyn, who opted to leave her new bike at home & also remembered to bring an umbrella, the rain stayed away all weekend.
Camp got under way with a swim & stretch session on Friday afternoon after which Daryl set the ground rules for the weekend. Our safety always his number one priority!
Berky & Lucy were late arrivals on Friday evening & missed the swim set, but Berky got his heart rate up with some python rescue on the way into Lake Bennett.
It was great that the Katherine bunch made the journey up and we all enjoyed their company. We finally got to inspect Kate's rather impressive scars and marvel at her comeback in time for Phuket (albeit with revised race goals).
Saturday's ride had everyone doing their programmed distances and giving lots of encouragement to each other along the way (and occasionally, a bit of cheek). The kilometres soon ticked over. Post ride we find that Simon lost a bit of bark after combining talking & turning in loose gravel, Phil had to stop and pick up his spares and Kate did a few spokes & was lucky Lucy had a wheel (thanks Lucy).
Running off the bike was tough in the hot, still conditions but with Phil still out there ticking off his extra time on the bike before his run even got underway, there was no point in complaining. What a brilliant feeling to tick that session off the list !
A couple of hours R & R was enjoyed by all before we headed back to Leila's "big pool" for a very welcome recovery swim, followed by a stretch session led by "FlexMaster Peacock". Lake B staff excelled with service at dinner (pre ordering was a big plus).
Given the desire to get our long runs out of the way early, most were out and running before sun up. Even so, it was still a sweaty affair and a squillion drink bottles were soon emptied and had our aid station looking like the MCG after a test match.
The run produced some determined looks and great form. The Lake B fly population has been reduced courtesy of some inadvertent fly swallowing .... and a lot of swatting !
How fantastic to tick that box, have some breakfast and front for the recovery swim. The popular "FlexMaster" took us through a final stretch session (lucky little Russell didn't make an encore appearance).
Daryl did a debrief on the camp and with his continued guidance, we can now look forward to our target events with great confidence.
Tough but fun ! Look for some great photos from the camp to be posted early next week.
Ironman 70.3 Shepparton - 13 November 2011
Mark's pre Busso hit out was Ironman 70.3 Shepparton today. Mark clocked a comfy 4 hrs 53 mins 54 secs spot on coach's instructions.
Rosie ran in the 7km Fun Run and was 7th Open Female in 36.07. She also did the swim in a team in the 70.3.
Way to go Mark and Rosie.
Ultra Trail Marathon - 12 November 2011
Amy headed for Queensland where she completed the 74km Cairns to Port Douglas Ultra Trail Marathon in 9 hrs 46 mins 50 secs, placing 2nd in F19-29 category. She can still walk ~ Big effort Amy !
Enduro, Lake Alexander - 6 November 2011
Racing was fast & furious and transitions hectic during the Enduro at Lake Alexander. The 250m swim, 5km bike, 1km run x 3 format, with eight transitions, throws up all sorts of challenges, not the least being to remember what to do next !
With a two wave start due to numbers, the pace was on with the guys & girls in wave two, hell bent on catching the front markers.
Marcus was the show stopper with a well controlled effort for a very close 2nd place overall in 53.16. Justin motored up from Wave 2 to post 55.13 for third overall. Ronnie was next in 56.01 just pipping Steve's all out effort of 56.09 which secured them 5th & 6th overall.
Berky and Kylie went neck and neck all day with Berky (59.45) just holding out the women's winner Kylie, who crossed in 59.49. Daniel was next over the line in 1.00.01.
Ryoko loved having plenty of people to overtake and manouvered her way through the field from wave two, securing 2nd place in 1.01.50, ahead of Stef's mighty effort of 1.02.27.
Damien was up in time this morning to join in, and clocked 1.04.16, ahead of Trev's 1.05.46 effort. Taking the speed bumps into consideration, Glen came down with the MTB and still did a respectable 1.07.05.
Peta was in the second wave and had Daz (wave 1) firmly in her sights all morning, winning bragging rights in 1.07.26 to his 1.07.37.
Amy left the new Cervelo at home, opting instead for her familiar hybrid ride, and went round in 1.08.17. Jane Marie was next over the line in 1.09.36 then Rosie & Lucy who teamed up for the morning and clocked 1.10.06 ahead of Russell (1.11.40) .
Bertram was RD for this one and did an awesome job as did Bin who rode shot gun for him. Robyn sat it out, using the paparazzi excuse as did Derek so there should be some great photos from this morning. Highly fancied to place highly at this one, Tim had the dreaded lurgy during the week and sat this one out. He made himself useful, as well as supporting he also stepped in to assist with timekeeping. Well done all !
Stork's Been - 2 November 2011
Congratulations to Lachie and Danielle on the birth of their baby boy. He's a tri baby through and through ... thoughtfully let dad compete and mum timekeep at the weekend before making his appearance.
No Bonking sweeps Asia - 2 November 2011
You read it here first ! We have been enjoying Graeme's humerous "No Bonking" series for some time. It's now invading Asia (via TriMag) and picking up an even greater following. See media
Katherine Sprint Race - 1 November 2011
There were some pleasing results from the Sprint Distance event (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) held in Katherine over the weekend.
Ashan posted the fastest swim & run times of the day and Haydn clocked the fastest bike.
Ashan went round the course in 1.07.19, a clear winner. In second was Simon with 1.10.30 . Haydn rounded out the podium with a solid 1.12.50. Trev is on the improve & finished next in 1.15.27 ahead of Lachlan, who crossed in 1.16.16.
Kate, who is still recovering from her bike crash, recorded a comeback win in 1.22.04 and Helen was second female in at 1.26.47. Well done ~ a big weekend !
Riding Hazards - 31 October 2011
If you think it is hazardous riding in Darwin these days, spare a thought for our Katherine crew. On their 100k ride on Saturday morning heading out to the Katherine Gorge Haydn, Simon,
Kate, Ashan and Trev were nearly bulldozed by a herd of buffalo.
Riding along
with only lights at about 5:30am, a herd of buffalo decided to smash through a
fence, run across the road about 20 metres in front of them and crash through the
next fence. Which was all fine except for the two that didn't make it through the fence
and thought it a good idea to run along beside the cyclists snorting and rearing towards
the road.
There was a lot of noise and visabilty wasn't good as most of their lights were stuck to the handle bars pointing straight ahead so they didn't have
much of an idea exactly where the buffalo were. It ended with Ashan yelling
"everyone ride as fast as you can and get the f*** away from them" and sprinting away. It certainly got the heart rate up.
Noosa Triathlon - 30 October 2011
Kylie has won the battle of the sexes at the Noosa Triathlon. She finished, with improvements across all legs, in a new PB of 2.28.50 14th F25-29 (up from 100th last year). Glen was racing in the Mates Wave, and had a great swim, bike to also PB in 2.32.38. Congrats to both.
Commiserations to Angelika who was not able to start this year. She is recovering from pneumonia - get well soon Angelika.
Murrayman Update - 27 October 2011
The Murrayman Triathlon to be held at Barmera, SA on 29 November 2011 has been included as a selection event for 2012 ITU LD Worlds in Spain. Distance: 2km swim, 80km bike, 20km run. Race Date: 20 November 2011
All interstate competitors will go in draw to win an iPAD 2
Triathlon, Lake Alexander - 23 October 2011
There was a big turnout for the club tri at Lake Alexander this morning. Steve was the RD so he was out and about early and was out of the competition mix for a change (after yesterday's big training load I don't think he was complaining).
The plovers were a little upset at being disturbed so early and gave a few people some grief as the swim got underway (we had two waves for a change).
The racing was fast and furious and with the second wave coming from behind everyone put in until the very end, some to stay ahead, others to overtake as many as possible.
Marcus was the stand out performer this morning, crossing 3rd overall in 37.50. Russell put in a big effort and was rewarded with a swift 39.20. Big Ronnie (2nd wave) cruised in to record a neat 40.00 time. Justin was feeling a little off but managed to stop the clock at a respectable 40.22.
Also in the second wave, Daniel was inspired to pass as many ahead of him as possible and recorded, a not to be sneezed at, 40.44. Dave was back in the mix and clocked a zippy 40.57. Glen proved he is Noosa ready with his 42.22. Haydn's holiday is now a distant memory, he's back working hard and clocked 42.25.
Kylie was next in and first female home (again). She went 42.42 holding out John who came in with 42.52 and Berky who went 42.54. Go the girls !
Ryoko was 2nd in the girls with her time of 43.56. Then came a bit of a gap until Daz crossed in 46.31. Jodie was back for her first race since the Sydney ITU race and went 47.50. Next was Peta in 49.17.
Amy's new bike is due anytime now. She went 50.05 on the hybrid today so there will be lots of improvement when she finally ditches those old wheels. Jane Marie posted 50.34 holding out Louise who put in a solid effort to stop the clock at 50.47
Russell's birthday proved a great excuse to eat cake later in the morning !!
Training Camp coming up - 20 October 2011
Our November Lake Bennett training camp is approaching. Don't forget to book your accommodation.
Those of us staying at the Resort usually bring dinner (pasta salad) on the Friday evening and book an early dinner at the restaurant on the Saturday evening.
Katherine connection - 9 October 2011
Our
Katherine athletes raced in their local club Sprint race (an
accurate 750/20/5). Ashan was first in 1.08.47 and Simon was second in 1.09.32.
These are excellent times for the first race of their racing season. Ashan’s
pool swim of 10.29 was particularly notable. Unfortunately, Helen had a
technical difficulty and Kate is still on the injury list after her recent bike
bingle. Well done.
Pizza Nite - 9 October 2011
Ever wondered what 52 pizzas look like? It seemed a little like over catering at time of ordering but they disappeared very quickly. Thanks to Daz for providing the pizzas and Rob (Options Wines) for the tasty selection of wines.
We enjoyed cupcakes (courtesy Mark's significant age birthday) and Kylie's cooking prowess produced a training program cake (delicious). Korean chocolates were also appreciated.
Sunset on the foreshore was a great location to celebrate reaching our goals and to set new ones for the coming months.
Thanks again to Daryl and Rob.
Reverse Order Tri - 9 October 2011
There was a full field for this 3km run, 13km bike, 300m swim reverse format triathlon at Lake Alex.
The pace was on from the start as everyone did a lap of the carpark and then galloped up the new pathway and back before grabbing their bikes and heading off for the Sunset Cove roundabout and back. Remembering to ditch the sunnies and pick up the goggles at the end of the bike required a bit of brain gym, but most managed it well.
In second place overall, Marcus stopped the clock at 35.58. Steve (3rd) was hot on his heels in 36.03. Times are dodgy but Daniel came in next just ahead of Justin, then Russell and Tim.
Back on track with times next to cross was John in 38.43, who managed to hold out Ron (38.51).
Dave comeback after a flutter with marathon running produced 39.36. Next was Ben in 39.42. A somewhat jetlagged Haydn clocked 40.37. Glen crossed in 41.01 and he was followed in by Berky with 41.03.
Kylie crossed for the win in the women in 41.21. She had Belinda close behind. Bin snaffled 2nd overall in 41.39. Damo was next in with a 42.38 and then surprise packet Jane Marie crossed in 43.41 as 3rd overall female.
A chain drop cost Ryoko but she still produced a 44.19 to come home just ahead of Rosie in (44.32) who held out Peta 44.54.
They were all chuffed to hold out Daz who finished in 45.01. Bertram was next across the line in
45.58. Amy clocked 46.35 (watch this girl if she ever gets a road bike) and next in was Robyn who was pretty excited to be back in the field and finished in 49.57.
Unfortunately Stef punctured and was a dnf but all up it was great fun doing a tri in reverse for a change.
Natural Physique Titles - 2 October 2011
Ryoko made a last minute decision to enter the International Natural Bodybuilding Association NT & Combined Series Natural Physique Titles - she started to train on Friday :).
Some may recall that she competed successfully last year. Today she has taken out the Ms Figure Intermediate category and was 3rd in Ms Figure International.
Ryoko says her fellow competitors were amazed that she hasn't done any weights ... and credits triathlon training with her "award winning" physique. Congrats Ryoko.
Tri Port Douglas - 1 October 2011
Nikki survived Tri Port Douglas Long Course. Make no mistake, it's at a time when humidity is really starting to pick up, the trade winds are in full force and the heat is on full !
Nikki clocked second female overall in 6.12.04 (with the run being acknowledged as long). Congratulations Nikki !
Triathlon Lake Alex - 25 Sept 2011
Aside from some creative interpretations of race rules, the event at Lake Alex went off well. There was a big line up for the 400m swim, 13km bike, 3km run triathlon and competition all round was fierce, just the way we like it !
It was good to see Tim back from his overseas jaunt and Glen home from the bush. Welcome back guys.
Tim was first out of the water proving it wasn't all lounging around in Europe. Photo proves he had been doing some swim training.
New dad Steve also had a blinder in the swim, exiting just ahead of Justin and Ronnie.
At the business end, it was Marcus who crossed in 39.13 taking 5th place overall. Steve was next, 6th with his 39.39 and Ronnie also made top 10 with his 40.01 finish time.
Justin had a solid day to finish with 40.50 and Rob was very close behind in 42.00. Tim was next home in 42.39 just ahead of John's 42.42 effort.
Kylie powered through the ride (all that Tour de Timor training effect kicking in) to go from 6th out of the swim to 1st off the bike. She then held out all challengers to take the women's event in 43.10. Nikki was next home & 3rd overall with her solid 44.19 effort. Next was Bin in 44.30, just ahead of Ryoko who followed her across the line soon after in 44.41.
Jane Marie was next home in 49.25 ahead of Bertram who crossed in 49.32. Phil clocked a steady 50.38 and Amy stopped the clock in 51.38.
Ben finished in 53.52 (after changing a flat out on the bike course).
Unfortunately for Glen he had forgotten how to ride a bike after being out bush for three weeks and he crashed out on the Cool Sport Corner. Observers tell us he will be a worthy nominee for the Broken Spoke award next year. Luckily both Glen and bike are relatively unscathed.
Great efforts all round !
NT Open Water Swimming Championships - 24 Sept 2011
It was straight down to business for Tim after arriving back in Darwin after a few months travel in Europe.
Tim, Skip and Ryoko made the podium at the 5km Open Water Swim championships at Lake Bennett, with Tim 1st and Skip 2nd in M21+ category and Ryoko 2nd in F21+.
Hayley's efforts at swim squad also paid off, she was 1st in F21+.
Well done.
Welcome Fynn - 22 Sept 2011
Congratulations to proud parents Anna & Steve and big sister Poppy on the arrival of Fynn Elliot. Welcome to the latest tri baby.
All well.
Watch those train tracks - 20 Sept 2011
With the approach of the wet season it's a good time to remind athletes of the perils of riding over train tracks.
They can become very slippery especially in the wet, but Kate's recent experience shows that they are not to be taken lightly at any time.
Kate spent a few days in hospital and is sporting numerous staples in her head and leg and has a broken finger after her mtb bike slipped out from under her while crossing the rail tracks last week.
We wish Kate a speedy recovery.
Graeme Update - 20 Sept 2011
He might be a one armed bandit at the moment but Graeme is giving the wind trainer a regular workout and looking as fit as.
Sydney Running Festival - 18 Sept 2011
Angelika ticked the box on her very first marathon to set her PB mark at 5.07.38 Well done Angelika, great achievement !
Congratulations also to Dave who put in the training hard yards and was rewarded with a 3.29.03 also at the Sydney Running Festival Marathon.
In the Half Marathon Jodie pb'd with 1.56.10, another great result.
Bridge to Brisbane - 11 Sept 2011
Amy took part in the 10km Bridge to Brisbane Fun Run with family & friends and posted a cruisy 49.04
Lake Alex Tri - 11 Sept 2011
A short & sharp tri of 300m swim, 13km bike, 2km run down at Lake Alex attracted a good field even though the weather got sightly confused and tossed up a reminder of dry season chill we thought had disappeared for good !
Marcus overcame a swim deficit to move into third off the bike, and then powered through the run to cross the line in second in a time of 33 mins 29 secs. Justin also had a very solid race (traffic lights aside) to come through in 6th with 35.02 and Rob (re emerging from his break) cruised into the top 10 with a very respectable 37.55.
Berky had the fan club on hand and his effort of 38.10 was worthy of their trip down to be on the sidelines. Skip's swim / bike combo was again applauded. Finishing only his second ever tri, Skip stopped the clock in 39.09. Lot's of potential there !
Ryoko put in a great effort to place 2nd overall female in a time of 39.20. Haydn's bike skills were called on big time at the dismount line ... how he stayed upright amazed everyone ! Once his HR returned to normal, Haydn stormed home in 39.57.
Daz had a solid work out and came in at 41.11, ahead of Trevor (41.17) who had him in his sights .
Good to see Phil return to racing, proving you can come back from serious injury (Phil followed all his recovery advice from doctor, physio & coach so really no surprise). He clocked 43.15 in his comeback hit out. Welcome back Phil ! Louise was a little further back and finished in 45.33
Some good swim times were recorded by swim squad members. You have to love a race that's all done & won in plenty of time for coffee, brunch or a visit to the markets !
Swim Series Results - 7 Sept 2011
Results of the Overall Points Winners for the 2011 Gatorade Open Water Swim Series have been announced. Congratulations to Skip and Ryoko, both winners in the 3km 21+ category.
Open Water Tri - 4 Sept 2011
Being Father's Day it appears that many of the guys got a special leave pass to attend the popular but challenging Open Water Tri !! Happy Father's Day to all our Dads.
Big Ron was RD for this club event. Being a swimmer, he set the swim course against the tide & the start entailed a long walk down the beach first.
Distances were 500m swim, 15km bike, 3km cross country run. The run up the beach from the water and distance from transition also added to the fun.
Steve flew home like a runaway train to finish in 5th overall in 54.30 holding out Justin who clocked 54.46 just behind him. Next in was Daniel who also finished in a rush for a time of 54.51. Mark was next home in 55.54 impressing daughter Erin with his style.
Kylie was next in, taking the women's event in 58.44 & crossing just ahead of Skip (58.56) who was participating in his first ever triathlon. Ryoko completed the Skip sandwich, crossing next in 59.15 & 2nd in the women.
Glen was steady & came in at 1.00.37 and was followed by new dad, Berky who clocked 1.01.15. Daz enjoyed coming out to play and posted a 1.02.53.
Good to see Rosie out there swimming for her team. Phil, Graeme, Anna, Russell & Robyn were all in the peanut gallery today & lead the cheering.
Club Presentation Night Dinner - 2 September 2011
We were well represented at Darwin Triathlon Club's annual Presentation Night Dinner at the Trailer Boat Club and many picked up awards.
Congratulations to Marcus who picked up the Geoff Simpson Long Course Series award; Grant, Mark & Steve who went 1,2 & 3 in the Sprint Series; Steve, Grant and Daryl who won their categories of the Triathlete of the Year Pointscore; Grant also took out the Duathlon Series award; Graeme who was named "Most Improved" and Glen who earned an Encouragement Award.
Commiserations to Phil who was presented with the Broken Spoke Award (read Crash Test Dummy) and
Bertram who earned himself "The Dag of the Year" title after his effort of falling asleep at the airport after Cyclone Carlos and missing his flight to Noosa. A good night was enjoyed by all.
Cross Country Winner - 2 September 2011
Marcus took out the RAAF Cross Country Run at Lee Point this morning. He zipped through the 6.4 km in 23 mins 22 sec to be an easy winner. Well done.
Close encounter with a crocodile - 2 September 2011
It finally happened this morning. Derek rocked up at Parap
pool to go for an extra swim and there was a croc in it. Admittedly it was only a
Freshwater croc and tiny (about 40cm long), but croc all the same. There was a
girl swimming and as Derek walked past, she popped up looking a bit spooked and
said, "there is something at the end of the lane that looks a bit like a
croc". To her credit she was still in the pool. Derek was thinking, no way, must be
a big leaf or something, but when he looked, sure enough, a little croc, sitting on
the bottom at the end of Lane 7. His first reaction was, that can't be real, but
then it took off and swam into another lane.
The pool guy handled it pretty well though, just scooped it
out with the net, rubber banded its mouth and put it in a tub until he could
call ranger services.
They figure somebody must have jumped the fence and dumped it
in there, as there is no other way of it getting in.
City to Surf Marathon - 28 August 2011
Congratulations to Kelly who has PB'd at the City to Surf Marathon in Perth this morning. Unofficial time 3.29.30
Mandorah Paddle Classic - 27 August 2011

Alice Springs Half Marathon - 21 August 2011
While many were sweating out at Lake Bennett, Louise was down in chilly Alice Springs participating in the Alice Springs Half Marathon. Congrats to Louise who finished in 2.10.47 adding to her considerable total of marathon and half marathon finishes.
NT Long Course Triathlon - 21 August 2011
This event is one of the toughest on the NT Calendar and definitely not one to take lightly. The early morning chill was a welcome respite before the heat everyone knew would come later in the day, and true to form, the temperature continued to rise all morning. The wind also picked up and buffered those taking a little longer on the bike and everyone on the run.
Congratulations to Marcus who made his way through the field and on to the podium for some welcome prize money. Marcus was third overall in 3.14.10. Also in the top 10 were Russell (3.24.23), Mark (3.27.16), Justin (3.28.33) and big Ron (3.30.18). Marcus and Justin also won their respective age categories.
Daniel had a blinder and was next to cross in 3.33.42. Steve had last weekend's awesome performance at Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon come back to haunt him, but still managed a gutsy 3.35.54.
Kylie was also backing up from the Tri de 24hr that she won last weekend. This never say die endurance queen also grabbed the 3rd place prizemoney in the women with her 3.54.01 effort.
Glen was next across in a very respectable 3.54.26 and he looked comfy all day.
With little Ava looking on from the sidelines, Nikki's long course comeback effort was rewarded with 4.00.35 and an age group win. Kate wasn't far behind, clocking 4.00.48 while showing a never give up attitude.
New dad Berky brushed aside the effects of disrupted sleep to record 4.03.44 and the lovely Ryoko smiled her way to the finish in 4.04.19. Haydn had a good day out to go 4.04.48. Daz felt the effects of time off but clocked 4.21.05 to take out his age group once again.
Effort of the day went to Amy. Less than 6 weeks ago she did her first triathlon, fronted today absolutely terrified she wouldn't make it through the swim let alone finish. Not only did she nail the swim, but also the bike (on a hybrid) and sailed through the run to clock 4.47.57 and win her first age group medal. Way to go Amy !
Simon went out on the run but listened to his holiday mode body and called it a day. Graeme made a disappointing snap d last week not to do this one and was missed in the field.
Competitors were encouraged by lots of support from the sidelines and are all very appreciative, especially of those partners left to look after little ones.
Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon - 14 August 2011
Steve posted a fantastic PB to break the magic 5 hrs at Yeppoon today ~ his time, 4 hrs 53 mins 57 secs ! Jamie finally made it back from the bush last week and also headed down for the race & posted a solid 5.14.48. Disappointment for Debbie who was forced to withdraw following the swim due to illness.
Well done guys!
Tri de 24hr - 14 August 2011
Following 27 laps (where she chalked up an amazing 8.1 kms of swimming, 247 kms bike, approximately 62 kms of running plus a few kms to and from the pool), one flat tyre, 81 transitions & short breaks of 40 and 27 minutes for naps when she couldn't keep her eyes open on the bike, Kylie has emerged the first individual at the 2011 Tri de 24 hr in Queensland. Well done Ironlady !
WTC Announcement - 12 August 2011
WTC has today announced that there will be 30 age group qualifying slots on offer at Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships at Laguna Phuket in December.
How's that for an unexpected but very welcome training incentive?
ITU London Hyde Park - 7 August 2011
Daz and Robyn were at Hyde Park in London to watch the men race the Olympic test event. The day started off fine but while the men were out on the bike it started to bucket down.
The Brownlee brothers starred (1st & 3rd), the Aussie guys have a lot of work to do before next year. Macca was nursing a hamstring tear and apparently knew he wasn't going to finish ... much interest in his performance so that was a shame, he was way behind out of the swim and only rode a couple of laps. Best of the Australians: Brad Kahlefeldt
Triathlon, Lake Alexander - 7 August 2011
With the Mandorah ride happening, this unusual format (1.5/13/3) attracted a smaller than normal crowd Ron was first out of the water.
He said " I dragged a few people along ...
Steve was at my feet the whole way. Ditto Robby W. Moira wasn't far off but I did beat her (.....again sigh...;-)). Then I believe it was John Thyne, who also loved the long swim, followed by Marcus. Brian Gallagher was there somewhere as well.
In the ride Steve, Robbie and myself stayed together. Marcus caught up near coconut grove roundabout. He took some advantage of us three copping the red light on the way out. I was not doing any work on the bike. After all everybody sat on my toes in the swim, so it was payback time....
On the way back, still doing no work, nicely sat on legal distance in 4th spot. Near Richardson park turnoff (Douglas street) I attacked, had to try something as I'm the weakest runner. I was riding at 46kmh for a while, but couldn't sustain that, bugger....all clawed their way back and then Marcus struck. He had a gap and.....just scraped through at the lights. We copped the red light again.
In the run no changes at the front. Marcus 1st, Steve 2nd, Robbie 3rd and I finished 4th. Had a good run, probably close to 4min/km.
Newcomer Glen Woodrow 5th, John T 6th, Gallagher 7th and I think new dad Berky 8th. I think Kylie was 1st female, then Vicky and Monica but don't take my word for it."
Brisbane Marathon - 7 August 2011
Damien has posted an impressive 3.47.19 marathon in Brisbane (124th overall). Good news also for partner Liz, she went 4.37.14. Well done.
ITU London Hyde Park - 6 August 2011
Robyn headed down to Hyde Park to watch the women's race of the ITU London test event for the Olympics. Absolutely awesome location. Unfortunately for Australia, the best we could today do was 4th (Emma Jackson) & 5th (Emma Snowsill). Full report here
Ironman Melbourne News - 4 August 2011
The tri world is buzzing with the announcement of Ironman Melbourne (25 March 2012). It clashes with Mooloolaba and is close to Singapore 70.3 and just before IM Oz. It has the tag of Ironman Asia Pacific championships and a whooping 75 slots for Hawaii. More here
Cross Training - 4 August 2011
Where there is an opportunity to cross train, Daz will find it. Latest ... punting at Oxford.
New Toy - 4 August 2011
While the coach is away .... we have it on good authority that an athlete has acquired a new toy !
Luke checks in - 1 August 2011
Luke recently sent best wishes to all from Timor Leste. He & Beth are enjoying life and his work is interesting and varied. Luke's not as fit as he was (his words) and really misses swim squad. The swims he does do require a eye out for roaming crocs. He regularly checks results and was particularly impressed with how everyone went at KUC in June.
ABC Half Marathon - 31 July 2011
Athlete reports from the Half Marathon all have a huge "enjoyment" factor included and that's always good news for the coach !
Mark's big effort & 1.26.08 finish time netted him 2nd in Male Open (16-39) and a top 10 placing overall! Haydn is proving to be another Mr Speedy, he clocked 1.34.52 for 12th in the same category. Dave was expertly taped at the start line after which he posted a pretty swift 1.38.37, holding out Justin (1.39.06) who was next in.
Ryoko was 5th female overall, the result of crossing the line in 1.39.58. Russell was next home in 1.41.20, followed by Damien (1.42.51), Glen (1.43.24) and new dad Berky (1.45.54).
The girls had lots to smile about with Kylie cruising in at 1.46.26, Amy stopping the clock with 1.48.43. Peta was next home in 1.53.19, then Jodie in 1.59.11.
Graeme gets a special mention with his impressive 2.05.03 & 3rd in Male 60+ category along with a beaming Louise who clocked 2.05.25 to chalk up another magic half marathon result.
Nikki was in there somewhere as well but no time recorded, and reports have Rob & Rosie earning the the title of super supporters.
Virgin Active London Triathlon - 31 July 2011
Robyn & Daryl checked out the world's largest triathlon! The Virgin London Triathlon (not to be confused with the ITU London Tri) is run over 2 days and shuts down roads right across London, with the bike turnaround under Big Ben.
The transition and finish line are indoors at ExCel. Swim exit includes a flight of stairs just to make things even more interesting.
Stork's been - 19 July 2011
Congratulations to Lucy and Berky on the arrival of their beautiful baby daughter Madi.
Howard Springs Bricks - 10 July 2011
We had perfect dry season weather for the big brick session at Howard Springs. Starting off with a chill in the air and warming up as the sun rose, made for ideal conditions the bike/run hitout.
Although under "it's training, not racing" instructions, some of the guys just couldn't help themselves and the pointy end put in big efforts in their sets. The comeback kids and the up & comers impressed with their improving form. Well done all.
Ironman Korea - 3 July 2011
When the swim on the day is described as vicious, you just know you are in for a tough Ironman !
Kylie's day started off well though with a good swim in those conditions. Word on the bike - TOUGH, very hilly. Run ~ even tougher. Kylie was up for the challenge & clocked 11.40.59, her second IM PB in 3 months. She made podium (3rd F25-29). Congratulations Kylie.
She has promised not to enter any ultra distance events for at least two weeks !!
Email Update from Tim in Europe - 3 July 2011
Tim checked in with supercoach, and said they are currently in Italy and having a fantastic time. He sent congratulations to Daz for his podium finish in Cairns & he has been tracking all the latest results, & thinks Derek must be happy about Ultra win and it
looks like the club did well in Fannie Bay swim.
Since he last made contact, he has done lots of traveling (Europe train travel makes it easy) & has been to Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Austria, Croatia, Sicily and now in
Italy & are working their way up to the tour to put Cadel's bike together for him!
This photo is in Sicily at a place called Taomina.
Tim is still training 6
times a week, mainly running. He is also stretching lots & feels that that is running is improving. Swimming has been in pools and in the ocean.
He met a few triathletes at a beautiful
pool in Prague. One guy sat on his feet for a 3km set. Swimming in Italy is
distracting... the girls don't wear much. Cycling has been limited to a 60min
paddle boat session, a tandem ride through Holland's countryside and the
occasional gym session on a bike.
Other than the lack of cycling he feels good
and looking forward to getting back into it when he gets back. He is missing the group
training sessions and says hello to the crew.
Triathlon Lake Alexander - 3 July 2011
Conditions were ideal this morning for the Lake Alex Tri. That is, all except for the smoke haze from a couple of nearby fires that were still smouldering.
Grant was RD and was down at the race site bright and early to get things underway. This was the first tri at Lake A since the lake reopened and it was evident that some had lost vital navigational skills with the lack of open water practice lately.
At the business end of the day, Marcus was 1st overall in a time of 41.30. Steve (he with the cold) had gone out onto the run first following a lightning fast transition and toughed it out for 3rd in 42.32. Justin stopped the clock at 44.19 for 4th overall and Berky made top 10 with a 7th place in 45.11.
Glen was just outside in 11th crossing in 47.28.
Nikki's comeback showed she definitely has what it takes and she finished strongly to be 2nd F across in 48.19. ahead of Ryoko (49.48) who was in a sprint finish for the final podium place against the current club champion.
Rosie revelled in the conditions and posted a solid 50.46 to hold out Jane Marie (51.34), and Graeme (52.08). Peta wasn't impressed by the traffic lights but enjoyed her 52.43 outing as did Amy (55.17) who was participating in her first ever triathlon. Well done Amy ! Louise (just getting the run thing happening again) was impressive with her 56.07. Russell was a dnf (as expected because he wasn't going to run) and was also sporting some road pizza after his aerobar snapped. Ouch!
Good hit out & nice to be tri-ing at Lake A again !.
